Original Long home on Cave Ridge, grandpa Goins on the front porch. Cave Ridge home picture taken in 1950 Dad purchased this 65 acre farm, which included this log house, and we moved here in the fall of 1947. I was in the fourth grade. My fondest childhood memories are here. Grandpa Goins sitting on the porch lived with us and he died in this house in 1954. Carved in the mortar on the rock chimney was, "build by Harris Bell 1870." Ironically Harrison Bell married Elizabeth Goins and they migrated to this area from Rockingham County, NC in 1853. My revolutionary Grandpa Goins also lived in Rockingham County (Goinstown) NC before coming to the Blackwater area near Kyle's Ford, now Hancock County, TN in 1813. I became interested in my family's history from stories grandpa told about his Grandparents. He said: "My Grandpa Goins was 1/2 Indian and my Grandma Minor was 3/4." My task has always been to try and find Grandpas Indian forbears.
